What happened after Star Wars Episode 6 Return of the Jedi?
What did Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) do after Star Wars Episode 6 Return of the Jedi?
George Lucas: Luke immediately began to rebuild the Jedi Knights in the form of a new Jedi Order. For a brief duration of time, the Force spirits of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda guided Luke in creating the new Jedi Order. However, while the dark side of the Force was temporarily weakened by the demise of the Sith Lords, the dark side began to grow intensely soon after Return of the Jedi and this eventually prevented Anakin, Obi-Wan and Yoda from visiting Luke as Jedi spirits or voices. Luke was left alone to teach his Jedi with ancient Jedi holocrons, which contain the secrets of the Jedi from the time of the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
Did Luke Skywalker get married and have children?

A few years after Return of the Jedi, Luke asked Leia to join the new Jedi Order. Leia accepted this offer and she joined the new Jedi Order. Why didn't you direct the sequels Star Wars Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi?
George Lucas: Back in 1976 when we were filming A New Hope in England and also in Tunisia, I had the worst experience of my life. The British film crew was resistant to my vision. They thought they were working on a low quality science fiction film. The mental and physical stress became so bad that I promised myself I would never direct again if I survived making A New Hope. When it came time to start work on The Empire Strikes Back, I found Irvin Kershner to direct the follow up to A New Hope. However, this experience was still horrendous because Kersh went way over budget and nearly ruined me financially.
For Return of the Jedi, I hired the late Richard Marquand. It turned out to be the best time with Star Wars because the sets didn't get destroyed and Richard stayed right on time and under the production budget. I acted as the second unit director for a few film shots, but I didn't do much. When it came time to produce Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace, none of my choices for prequel director would agree to make the film. They all told me I had to finish Star Wars by directing The Phantom Menace myself. I did it and I must admit working on The Phantom Menace was the most enjoyable moments of my life, not including the births of my three wonderful children.
